I have just received the following update from my colleague Deputy Darragh O'Brien TD:
I am writing to update you on progress following my recent meeting with senior Garda members in response to my letter to the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
I recently met with Chief Superintendent Mark Curran to advance our campaign for additional Garda resources for North Dublin and the long awaited reopening of Rush Garda Station.
My colleagues Cllr Brian Dennehy, Cllr Adrian Henchy and Local election Candidate for Balbriggan Niall Keady are working very closely with me on this and are fighting for additional Garda resources for the Balbriggan sub-district of Fingal, which covers the towns of Balbriggan, Lusk, Skerries, Rush and the rural Fingal area.
Superintendent Anthony Twomey informed me that this Thursday 18th April 2019 a recently promoted Inspector and Sergeant will commence duty in the Balbriggan District. Two additional Gardaí have also been added to Balbriggan Garda Station. This is in addition to the 5 additional Gardaí that we helped secure last year and is very welcome news.
Superintendent Twomey also confirmed to me that refurbishment of Rush Garda Station is expected for completion mid to late June 2019.
I’ve copied below confirmation, which I received from the Superintendent, of the additional Gardaí coming to Balbriggan District and the expected completion of refurbishment of Rush Garda Station.
“Good day Mr O’Brien, TD,
In respect of additional resources I have on the 25th March 2019 had an allocation of two Probationer Gardaí to Balbriggan. On the 18th April 2019 a recently promoted Inspector and Sergeant will commence duty in the Balbriggan District. On the same date a Sergeant from within the District who was recently promoted to Inspector and another Sergeant will transfer out of the District.
As you may be aware refurbishment of Rush Garda Station is expected for completion mid to late June 2019. At that time I will have to consider reallocation of personnel from my existing pool of resources to staff the station during yet to be determined opening hours.
I trust that this provides some clarity to your enquiry.
Anthony Twomey, Superintendent
An Garda Síochána
These are positive developments that Cllr Dennehy, Cllr Henchy and I welcome. Furthermore we were advised that at least 30/40 additional Gardaí are to be allocated to the DMR North Division in North Dublin before the end of year.
We will continue to keep you updated. In the meantime if you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
